How is reading time calculated?
Reading time is estimated from an average adult silent reading speed of about 200–250 words per minute. This tool uses roughly 200 wpm, which is a sensible, slightly conservative default for general web content — technical material naturally reads slower.
Does it count spaces as characters?
It shows both: total characters including spaces and excluding spaces. That matters because different platforms count differently — social networks usually include spaces in their limits, while some form fields don't.
Is my text stored or uploaded?
No. Everything is counted live in your browser as you type. Nothing is sent to a server or saved, so it's safe to paste drafts, private notes, or client work.
How many words is one page?
As a rough guide, one single-spaced page is about 500 words and one double-spaced page about 250 words in a standard 12-point font. For blog posts, 1,000–2,000 words tends to perform well in search while staying readable.
